When our goats sadly pass away and we don't know exactly what caused the death, we send the body to CSU (Colorado State university) to find it out.

How do we do?
1) Call CSU to find out if they take at the same day if the goat passed away during the week end or holidays.

Evenings and Weekends: Call (970) 297-5000 before dropoff.
2) If they do take your goat's body for the necropsy, make sure you follow how to preserve the body.
"Whole animals or fresh specimens should be cooled, but not frozen, promptly after death or as soon as possible after field dissection and transported to the lab promptly with a sufficient number of cold packs to prevent further spoilage."
3) Write down the information the goat in the CSU necropsy submission form.
4) Usual necropsy fee is about $100 per goat unless they suggest to do further examinations.
5) Take the goat body to CSU's drop off location.

- Travelling either from the north or south, exit west off of I-25 to Prospect Road (exit 268)
- Travel west on Prospect Road approximately four miles to College Avenue
- Turn left (south) onto College Avenue
- Travel south on College Avenue approximately one mile to Drake Road
- Turn right (west) onto Drake Road
- Travel west on Drake Road approximately one third mile to the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital entrance (on your right)
- Signage will direct you to follow the split in the road to the left
- Follow this road until you see the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory on your right
