***We are disease-free herd & G6S normal herd***
All our senior goats are tested annually by the lab for CAE, Johne's, checked by our livestock vet for CL, and tested every three years for TB & Brucellosis by our livestock vet and the labs.
Please contact us if you would like to see the actual results, we are happy to send them to you.
Our farm policy towards breeding
We believe that especially mini breeds such as Mini Nubians are in the extremely small community. Therefore, unlike the trend in goat breeding world and livestock breeding world, we AVOID LINE BREEDING at Opus 7 Farm as best as we can in order to keep our goats as healthy as they could be.
**Opus 7 Farm is excited to be your goat mentor free of charge. We are very good at match making for your homestead, farm and ranch needs. Please ask if you have any questions for your herd. We could even ask other goat breeders to do match making for your needs.
What are wethers?
Wether is a castrated buck. We ask our vet to put band on the testicles with the help of local anesthesia while he is still a baby.
Because he is cut off from buck hormones, he will become the most even-tempered, easy going goat compared to intact female and male goats with full hormones. This is the reason why wethers are
the perfect pet goats.
You could train wether like you do with dogs. Examples are leash training, agility training with treats or clicker training. You name it!
Wethers can pull the small goat cart. Wethers also can be great hiking companions.
Our wethers
Our wethers are all bottle trained while they are with dams during the day. They learn how to behave as goats and what to eat & what not to eat from dams.
Because they are bottle trained, they already understand that humans are nice and lovely.
Our wethers are very friendly and will follow you like puppies and enjoy your compony while knowing how to be goats.
Because wethers are not carrying their names to the next generations, the buyers can decide their names.
If you need to register wethers, we could send an applications to MDGA for you to register and transfer.
Special wether care
Feeding wethers is the simplest and cheapest among goats.
Because they are castrated, they are more susceptible to get Urinary Calculi. (Similar to kidney stones.)
In order to prevent from getting Urinary Calculi, they need to have low protein hay;
Good Grass hay! And lots of water intake.
